Sarah Strong: In Honor of Sarah Nicole Petersen

In Loving Memory of Sarah Nicole Petersen.

(January 2, 1994 - February 11, 2024)

In the early hours, we lost a beacon of light and love. Sarah Nicole Petersen, a soul of unparalleled kindness, humor, and resilience, left us at 2:53 AM on February 11, 2024, after a brave battle with liver failure. Surrounded by love and listening to her friends Rachel and Neesa sing "You Are My Sunshine," Sarah departed this world, leaving behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and an indomitable spirit that inspired everyone she touched.

Sarah's journey over the last few months was a testament to her extraordinary courage and her desire to live life to the fullest, despite the odds stacked against her. Diagnosed with liver and kidney failure, a consequence of a genetic predisposition and exacerbated by liver disease, Sarah faced her condition with a smile and an unwavering positive spirit. Even in her final days in hospice care, she chose to minimize her pain medication to stay present with her beloved family and friends, soaking in every last moment, every laugh, and every tear. She would only accept Tylenol to soak up every moment she had left, she would rather endure the pain to be with her loved ones than sleep into the abyss. She was a fighter and did not give up, not even at the end.

Known affectionately as "Sarah Strong" for her incredible resilience, Sarah's final days were filled with love, laughter, and the comforting presence of those she loved most. She told the hospital Chaplin two days before passing, "this is the best day of my life" surrounded by family and friends, love and prayers. From the jokes that lightened the heavy air to the precious moments with friends and family, every second was a treasure, a memory imprinted on the hearts of those who were privileged to be part of her journey.

As we come together to honor Sarah's memory, we also face the reality of her passing - the hospital and cremation costs that her family now shoulders, alongside their profound grief.

It is in this moment that we reach out to you, our community, our extended family, to support the "Sarah Strong" campaign. Our initial goal is to raise $10,000, with a hopeful heart to reach $15,000, to not only relieve her brother James and his family of these financial burdens but to also celebrate Sarah's life in a manner that reflects the joy and love she shared so freely.

Sarah's generosity knew no bounds, even in death. Her decision to become a donor. She will live on with donations of her skin to burn victims, her retinas, corneas, heart valves, nerves, bone marrow, and more, is a lasting testament to her selfless nature. She continues to give life and hope to others, embodying the very essence of being "Sarah Strong."
