Sarah & Michael after a year of medical issues.

I started this go fund me page to help my sister and brother in law who have for the last year been struggling after the birth of their second son. It was a traumatic birth resulting in an emergency c-section that has left Sarah struggling to walk and immense pain. She has been out of work because of this, and it has taken its toll financially. I’m asking for your help to ensure they can stay in their home for the stability of their family. Whatever you can contribute, thank you.
This is what Sarah said about her ordeal...
On September 3rd 2022 Michael and I went to the hospital in anticipation of welcoming our second baby.
5 days later we left the hospital with our precious little boy we named Dawson, and a partially paralyzed mommy.
I ended up with an emergency c-section and when the anesthesiologist put in my epidural he hit my spinal cord.
I immediately had what felt like an explosion of pain in my back and down my right leg. That pain NEVER went away. I felt it through the entire c-section procedure. When Dawson was out and the doctor was finishing up I began to feel what she was doing. I felt everything. The pain in my back and leg. The procedure of the c-section. EVERYTHING.
Meanwhile Dawson began to have breathing trouble and was sent to the NICU.
With my husband holding my hand and doing everything in his power to keep me calm, my doctor was working to close me up.
Sometime during everything I got to the point of being maxed out of the medication they give through the epidural and the anesthesiologist said that my next option was being put to sleep.
I said No.
We got to recovery.
I still had not held my baby.
My wonderful nurse got his NICU team on the phone so we could check on him. And thankfully he was doing alright.
My pain was like fire. It never stopped.
While in recovery my right leg began jumping. But I had no feeling or knowledge of this happening.
By the time I got out of recovery and into a regular room my pain was unbearable. At this point I also realized that I could not move my right leg, at all.
I had pain crisis that night. So much pain that I was blacking out.
I still could not use my right leg.
The nightmare continued at the hospital for 5 days. I was told “You had a baby, things happen.” And “Give it time. It will get better.”
When we got to go home the pain continued. The paralysis continued. I could not do anything for myself. Couldn’t roll over in the bed, take myself to the bathroom, take a shower, sit, stand. You name it. I had to have a lot of help.
Fast forward to a year later.
I’m still unable to drive. Unable to work. Unable to play with my kids. I'm unable to go up and down steps properly, walk in the yard on my own. Riding in the car is limited to an hour at the time, I have to stop for a break, and my leg has to have support from a rolled towel.
Walking is extremely difficult, and I can’t stand for more than 45 minutes. Doing simple things around the house is extremely difficult at best.
My pain becomes so bad that I have to lay down.
I’m on a regimen of medications and I still have Physical Therapy twice a week.
At this point, I don’t know what the future holds. I know that I’ve lost my career, lost my independence, and my husband and kids deserve better.
I’ve applied for disability and been denied. I’ve actually been denied all assistance. I’ve applied for online jobs only to be turned down more than 20 times. The bills and the stress are piling up. With no end in sight.
I’ve had to fight to see each of 12 doctors I’ve seen in the last year. And still no answers.
I still have a ton of pain every minute of every day. My right leg continues to refuse to function properly.
My sweet sister started this Go Fund Me to help us.
And we are wholeheartedly thankful for any help.
