On Saturday, December 2, 2023, our precious Sarah Mateja was involved in a severe auto accident in Carrizo Springs, Texas. Sarah had to be resuscitated at the scene and was transported to a local hospital to be stabilized. She was then life-flighted to the University Hospital in San Antonio. Sarah had two surgeries to try to relieve the pressure in her skull from her brain swelling from the accident. Sarah was in ICU for three days where doctors and nurses worked around the clock and took every measure possible to try and save her life. The team in the ICU was the most exceptional medical team. Dr. Patel, who was her neurocritical doctor, said he could see and feel the love that surrounded Sarah. He said he woke up in the middle of the night trying to think of other measures he could take to save her. Unfortunately, even after all the life-saving measures they took, Sarah’s brain injury was too severe and there was nothing more they could do. Sarah peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 4, 2023. She was taken from us far too soon.

We humbly ask for your generous donations to cover the expenses related to Sarah’s unexpected injury and passing.

Before the accident, Sarah was flourishing as a junior at the University of Texas in San Antonio where she was studying Biomedical Engineering. She hoped to invent devices to help people. Sarah was enjoying her time at UTSA and met a new group of friends she called her people. She liked her professors and what she was learning in her classes. Sarah loved helping people and she was giving to others by donating her plasma.

Before attending UTSA, she attended Cypress Falls High School while simultaneously taking dual credit courses from Lone Star College. In June 2023, she graduated with her high school diploma with honors and her associate's degree in science. In High School Sarah was a member of the Cypress Falls Sky Dancer drill team where she served as social officer her Senior year. Being a Sky Dancer fulfilled her lifelong dream to dance. Sarah was smart, beautiful, creative, giving, and lit up the room when she walked in. She was dearly loved by her family, friends, and pets. She will be missed beyond measure.
