Hi everyone. My name is Tim Perfect. This is a post that no friend or family member ever wants to write about someone they love. My friend Sarah has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Just before Christmas last year, Sarah discovered a lump in her left breast. As Sarah tells the story,
"I have always wondered how I would ever know if I had a lump in my breast. It’s one of those things you don’t know until you know. You know? But there it was. I was doing a self-check in the shower and I felt something. What was that? There was definitely something there that wasn’t before.
There is a history of breast cancer in my family and even though I had had abnormal mammograms before, they were always found to be dense breast tissue and NOT cancer. So when I found the lump right before Christmas, I wasn’t too worried. I figured it was the same thing as it had been years before. I am, however, a smart adult human and know that breast lumps are not to be taken lightly. I picked up the phone and made an appointment to have a mammogram – I was due for one anyways.
The next day there was ONE opening for a mammogram. The. Next. Day. I took that appointment. It was the smartest move I made in the entire year of 2022."
Sarah was officially diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma on January 4th, 2023. She is scheduled for a bilateral mastectomy on February 3rd. The recovery will take 4-8 weeks, at the end of which we're all hoping Sarah will be cancer-free and living her best life! (read: new boobs!)
All of the funds raised will be used to offset the medical costs associated with her treatment, her upcoming surgery, and financial relief during her recovery (such as living expenses, transportation, meals and more).
Sarah is one of the most caring, smart, talented, tough, and generous women I know. She gives so freely of her time and her talents to others who are in need. It is said that whatever energy you put out into the world will be returned to you multiplied by three times. If that is true, I know we will be able to reach this goal!
Thank you for reading this far, thank you for considering our request, and make sure you do your monthly self-breast exam!
