My Daughter Sarah, my son in-law James, my new Grandson Jack and their dog Tilly, are out safe and unharmed. Unfortunately, they have lost everything. There was not enough time to retrieve any items from their home. The building are privately owned units not apartments. They did not have renters insurance and it will take many months to determine if any of the their loss is covered by the buildings insurance company.  One of the hardest issues is that (like all Brownstones in Brooklyn) they had to post a seven month security deposit to get into the building and with a new baby and very limited reserves, it will be quite difficult to find a new apartment immediately. Sarah just went back to work yesterday (the day of the fire) after five months of maternity leave. Three of these months were without pay.

Anything you can do to help would be so deeply appreciated. I am a true believer in compassion, and that when we give compassion in times of need we ourselves are the ones who benefit.
