Hi, my name is Sarah and I'm 11 years old.
When I was young, I grew up with many animals and learned to love them in all their furry glory. I learned that my mom had a rescue program that helped homeless cats. But what I didn’t know, is that there were other dogs and cats that didn’t have a home like mine did. As I looked into it more, I came to realize all the tragedy these potentially amazing pets had to go through.
I LOVE animals and have followed in my mom's footstep's into the world of animal rescue. We have 3 dogs, 4 cats and 4 foster kittens at the moment. Since my mom keeps telling me we can't adopt any more(sigh), I decided to try and help another way. At first I wanted to volunteer at shelters but was told I was too young. This bummed me out but then I had another idea.
To help raise awareness and money to save lives, we decided to try fundraising - which was a huge success. About a year ago I started holding "fur-raisers" to rasie funds for animal rescue groups. I've raised about $1,500 selling handmade keychains/ornaments, lemonade, vegan cookies and hot chocolate in my neighbporhood. I also make homemade cat toys to take to shelters. Once I realized that my community was interested and engaged, me and my mom decided to look into expanding my fundraising to the worldwide web. I designed an online fundraiser that grew to have the name Sarah Loves To Help (SLTH).
When my mom saw that I was starting to raise a significant amount of money at my events she suggested I start my own non-profit to support rescue groups to save more lives. So I(we) did! As we looked into more community supported websites, we came upon an incredibly well known organization, GoFundMe. We opened our own account and here we are!
SLTH will grant funds to animal welfare organizations who meet our guidelines (such as no-kill, of course). My non-profit status is pending but I hope to get it in early 2022. Rescue groups will be able to fill out and submit an application online. My plan is to give out grants from $500 and up starting with local groups (Los Angeles, CA) and expanding nationally as funds permit. Rest assured all groups will be thoroughly vetted!
Our hopes are to reduce over population and trauma that is experienced by animals all over the world, by collecting funds from the community. I'd really like to make my first grant by 12/31/21 for $5,000. Please help me make this happen! I know it's last minute but I know we can do it!
Even by donating just a couple dollars, you have supported this small non-profit and the animal lives that depend on it.
Thank you!
