Sarah Hudson Layfield an ALS Warrior

In 2020 our sister Sarah Hudson Layfield was diagnosed with ALS. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis,  also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. It is a devastating disease that has affected Sarah, her family, her friends and our community.

Sarah has always been such a giving individual to her family, friends, her school, and her community. She has spent the last 20 years coaching basketball, field hockey, little league teams, and serving as a religious education teacher.  She has served and volunteered on many boards to serve the youth of our community. She organized many basketball and hockey leagues and camps. She also a big supporter for Special Olympics as the physical education teacher at Howard T. Ennis. She is one of the most giving supporters to our community youth. If it needed to be done Sarah was always there giving her time and support in any capacity. She is such a humble person and has never desired recognition for all of her hard work and dedication.  She simply believed it was a way for her to pay it forward and give back to the children in her community. As her siblings, we want to do something to help her and her family during her time of need.

The hopes for this fundraiser is to provide funding to help provide safe, reliable and comfortable transportation for Sarah. She experiences great pride and enjoyment to be able to support her children Madge and Garth at their sporting events. It also will provide transportation for things we all take for granted.  This fundraiser will enable her the ability to travel and to continue to live her life with some normalcy.  

Through this journey, Sarah has been blessed by the ALS family. Due to the fact there is no cure for ALS and the life span averages 3-5 years, families that have lost family members donate and pass on items that will help another family experiencing the this unimaginable reality.  Please know that your donation will not only bring joy to Sarah and her family, but you will be help other families in the future as well. We plan to pay forward as well.
