Sarah is a 7-year old beautiful girl that just four short weeks ago was dancing, swimming, horseback riding and doing all things little girl. A fall that she had trouble getting up from led her parents on a devastating journey to discover an inoperable tumor on her brain stem. Sarah has a very rare and aggressive tumor called DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma). She was hospitalized for over a week and is now home but receives daily radiation treatments during the week to try and shrink the tumor. They are exploring options for clinical trials that will take them outside of the Los Angeles area for treatment, at the family’s expense.Sarah’s loving family includes her parents, Alana & Justin, and big brother Jay who is 14 years old. The effects of the tumor have hindered Sarah’s speech & when she can speak it is difficult to understand her. She is unable to do basic things (walking, writing, coloring) without assistance and she is left feeling very frustrated and upset. This fundraiser will assist Sarah’s family in taking her on trips, going to see and do things she’s always wanted to, and filling her days with smiles.

Sarah’s family has been very involved in our soccer region (AYSO Region 114 Long Beach) and with their church, Calvary Chapel Downey. I first met Alana 9 years ago when our boys were on a soccer team together. Since then she has jumped in feet first with every volunteer opportunity available. She is a volunteer Referee, assists with our Coach Administrator team, is our Picture Day Coordinator and most recently serves as our regions’s CVPA (Child & Volunteer Protection Advocate). If you’ve been to our region on a Saturday you most certainly have seen Alana and her family working the Referee Tent & helping out.
