Over the past decade I’ve come to understand that tough doesn’t even begin to describe Sarah. She’s indestructible. Not because she’s impenetrable or unbreakable, but because when she does get hit or gets torn down, she always pulls herself back together. And she has taken some hits, she has faced absolute destruction but she always makes it to the other side. Sarah has survived terrible trauma, unnecessary wars, debilitating addiction, family division and every time she has survived and found a way to thrive on the other side.
This year she faced one of her most harrowing challenges yet when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Even that was not enough to put her down and she suited up for battle yet again. Surgery, chemo, radiation: she has tackled every challenge and pushed herself forward toward recovery. But her battle is not over. Despite initial positive reactions to treatment, this terrible illness has spread and the cancer has metastasized to her lungs. Her prognosis is now Stage 4 but she will never give up. This is only the latest battle she will fight to survive, but she does need our help.
Everyone needs help, sometimes. No one knows that better than Sarah, who's spent most of her adult life helping those in need. She saved lives as an army medic, she's saved lives as a recovering addict giving advice and compassion to other recovering addicts, and she's devoted countless hours to aiding the families of missing persons through communities online.
Sarah has touched so many people's lives in her 40 years on this earth, whether it be with her words, her actions or her story. By donating to this GoFundMe, you have a chance to provide some measure of hope and support for Sarah, her three wonderful children (Andrew, Lucas and Audrina) and her newly-wed husband Jan. Sarah’s hope is that with the money raised from this GoFundMe she will be able to pay off the mortgage on the house so she can leave something for her children, and so she can spend some part of the next few years traveling and experiencing the things she never had a chance to do.
On behalf of the family, thank you for your support and the fight goes on.
