A MESSAGE FROM MARTHA - PLEASE SHARE, EMAIL YOUR FRIENDS AND POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA. THANK YOU!
This is an overdue post to say the biggest thank you to everyone who supported us through the last month of what our family went through and is still going through. I’m short, Sarah broke both of her wrists and had surgery on both (which was successful) 36 hours later at home she was having trouble breathing and returned the the ER and found she had a massive blood clot that stopped her heart twice and went to her lung. She was helicoptered to North Shore ICU where she remained for 10 days, 4 days on a regular floor and 2 weeks in an acute rehab. Bc of the massive clot buster she was given that also saved her life her wrist wounds suffered tremendously bc of large amounts of bleeding and swelling and she’s now still compromised with use of her hands and fingers. And her cancer treatment is scheduled to begin again soon. What’s been a bright light is all the love and support we’ve received from so many and I just wanted to acknowledge that here. Whether is was a visit, a meal, a card, a text, a contribution to the go fund me page that was created , a ride somewhere or just a friendly check in, it means so much . We have a long road ahead but for now Sarah is home and enjoying some of the pretty sights in her garden. It takes a village and you all showed up for us. Thank you. Thank you.
Our friend Sarah and her family need our help.
Two weeks ago, Sarah fell, broke both wrists and underwent surgery to repair the damage. One day after being released from the hospital, Sarah was rushed to the ER with difficulty breathing. Sarah had a blood clot in her lung that was pressing on her heart.
Sarah received lifesaving care and was airlifted to the CCICU unit at North Shore Hospital, where she remains today.
The photo we have shared is of Sarah post-surgery and is not reflective of her current condition in the CCICU.
Sarah’s wife and children have been by her side throughout. Now, Sarah’s road to recovery will require the support of her loving community of family and friends. Martha and Lila are currently staying in Manhasset, away from their home in Riverhead. All aspects of their lives have been put on hold.
We are seeking financial support to cover secondary housing in Manhasset, medical expenses and daily costs of living with this new reality.
ABOUT SARAH
Sarah Christ is a force of nature who has provided support to the Lung Cancer and LGBTQ+ communities. In 2016, Sarah was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. Since that time, Sarah has championed new treatments and approaches for lung cancer survival. Sarah is a spokesperson for LUNGevity, an organization fighting to find cures and services for those diagnosed with lung cancer. Sarah and Martha have also been trailblazers in the effort to ensure the full respect and treatment of all individuals diagnosed with cancer, regardless of sexual and gender identity.
Most importantly, Sarah is a mother and wife. An incredibly loving friend, sister and daughter.
I have included a link to a recent interview Sarah and Martha participated in representing the LGBTQ+ community in cancer care. This is interview reflects the intelligence, strength and love this couple embodies.
I ask you to consider supporting Sarah, Martha and their children.
