Sarah Brock-Carter ~ Fundraising Medical Needs
Hi, my name is Jim Brock and I’m fundraising for my cousin, Sarah Brock, who has had an unfortunate series of event. Sarah is 36 yrs old and had a 13 vertebrae fusion done in 2009 to prevent the worsening of a genetic deformity know as Scheuermann's Disease. Fast forward to the pre dawn hours of June 17th 2021, Sarah fell in her bathroom where she remained there until her husband, who works night shifts, found her the next morning when he arrived home from work. She had intermittent confusion and could not get up from the floor even with the assistance of her husband. He called EMS for help and upon arriving in the ER, her labs showed her blood sugar was over 500 and now she's paralyzed from the waist down. She spent a week in the ICU and had several studies and tests done on her spine to see if there were answers to what was causing the paraplegia and all have come up inconclusive. She has regained slight sensation in her legs since the incident, so her doctors wanted her to have extensive therapy to see if that would help her legs progress. She was transferred from the ICU to an inpatient rehabilitation hospital for physical and occupational therapy. Two days into therapy, Sarah experienced severe pain behind her Left knee and after an Ultrasound was done a DVT a blood clot was found. Three days of bed rest and a blood thinner was ordered and then therapy was allowed to continue. On July 4th at 6am, Sarah spiked a temp of 102.7, her breathing was labored, and her heart raced at 145 beats/min. The covering Doctor had her sent out to the ER for a CT scan of the chest and the results showed Pulmonary Embolisms ( blood clots) in both lungs, pneumonia and a DVT in the Left arm as well as the DVT behind her Left knee from before. So they admitted her for extreme IV therapy to try to get rid of those clots.
Her husband is a nursing assistant which works 12-hour shifts at night. He is their only source of income and works two jobs. He has continued working at his jobs throughout her hospitalization because he doesn't have the vacation/sick time to take off work, but still makes time to be with her and help with her care between sleeping and working. They have a soon to be 10 year old boy which is autistic and has been having to stay five days a week with his grandparents. They live 1 1/2 hours away and cannot come and stay closer due to Grandpa's failing health and the recent series of events. Their finances are strained at this time and you can imagine the emotional stress which comes with losing the ability to walk. All funds will go towards customizing a new vehicle for a paraplegic equipment, help with child care, and home nursing care.
If you find it in your hearts to help Sarah and her family, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank
you ❤️
