Sara's Plagiocephaly Helmet

We are raising funds for treatment for a wonderful baby girl called Sara. She is 9 months old and suffered a lack of therapy input over the pandemic, leading to severe plagiocephaly; flattening of her head. Sara’s plagiocephaly is now affecting her face, and her cheeks and ears are also asymmetrical. The only treatment for this is helmet therapy, which is not available on the NHS and costs £2050.00. If we leave it too late, the last option is orthopaedic surgery on her skull which we are trying to avoid.

Sara was born on 1st February 2020. Her parents are both performers and have worked in the arts all their lives, being fortunate enough to gradually increase performance bookings to sustain a full time career. All bookings were then cancelled due to the pandemic, and Sara’s parents have struggled with financial difficulties. Due to Sara’s age, she is nearly too old for the helmet and time is not on our side. She was scanned and fitted for her helmet on Wednesday 4th November, and it will be ready in 2 weeks, on the 18th. To pick up the helmet, we need all funds raised by 18th November.

From Sara’s parents: ‘Being suddenly faced with the prospect of treatment we simply couldn't afford, not being able to have a chance at correcting something we could see happening before our eyes, having followed all the instructions from health professionals throughout lockdown and to still feel so helpless is heartbreaking... and therefore we have listened to advice from many sources and are prepared to do whatever we can to be in with a chance of success against financial odds.’
