This campaign was created for Sara Saldana and her family.
Sara is a friend and classmate of my son Nicholas. She is a sweet, happy seven year old girl who has had a rough couple of weeks... It has been such a rollercoaster of emotions for Sara, her mom Nicole and her family. What they have been going through is beyond hard.
She had a routine class eye exam at school, and her teacher noticed that when she covered one eye to read the letters she got really scared so she advised Nicole (Mom) to take her to the eye doctor.
Nicole took her to the eye doctor, and from there they were transfered by ambulance to Bascom Palmer. There, the doctors diagnosed Sara with a brain tumor, which was located on her optical nerve. As a result of the pressure from the tumor Sara has permanently lost all vision in her left eye.
Since the diagnosis, the tumor has spread to her brain making the surgery more complicated. They will have to fracture her skull in two different places to remove the tumor. Because of this, her recovery will take up to 10 months.
Its a hard thing to talk about, but in researching this it has happened to a lot of other children as well and Nicole feels parents need to emphasize the importance of an eye exam for children.
Nicole had to quit her job to tend to all of Sara's needs so all of your donations will help Sara And her mom with medical bills, and so so many other expenses that Nicole has to cover now.
Sara's surgery is at Miami Children's on Jan 23, and they are also taking blood donations for transfusions she may need for surgery or recovery.
Anyone can go to Oneblood in Pinecrest give her name Sara Saldana and the surgery date of January 23rd and they will send it to the hospital. Her blood type is 0+
All donations will help with all of the expenses that go along with caring for a sick child. There will be a long list of medical bills, driving expenses, food, and care for Sara and her family.
