Sara Nelson's Celebration of Life

Donation protected
Sara was the most beautiful woman inside and out. She had a love for life that was contagious and a personality that we will forever cherish.

For those of you that know Sara well, you know that her life was never easy. She worked incredibly hard (multiple jobs) during college to finance her education and living expenses and always did it with a smile while scoring higher than you on any exam after working a midnight shift. She was incredible. She was brilliant.

UVA is where my friendship with Sara began and it's a place that will always remind me of her. Given Covid and in respect of her family wishes, there will not be a funeral service for Sara.

However, we are raising money for a commemorative bench at UVA. It will be a place for all of us to visit and celebrate her life and the legacy that she left behind.

We love you so much Sara and you will never ever be forgotten!

How will funds be used?

1. Funds will first be used to pay for a memorial bench at UVA to honor Sara and her beautiful memory. We estimate this to cost anywhere from $5,000 - $7,500 based on University estimates. See details here: https://officearchitect.virginia.edu/item/114-memorial-benches

2. Any remaining funds will be donated to The Daily Planet (https://dailyplanetva.org/), which is a free clinic that Sara's boyfriend, Greg, was working with to obtain help with his depression and addiction.

Who will be ensuring the funds will be used appropriately?
Julie Hunt, Sara's best friend and sorority sister, will be responsible for commissioning the bench with the university and making the financial donation of all excess funds to The Daily Planet.

UPDATE:

We are completely humbled, but not at all surprised by the overwhelming love and support for Sara. Sara's boyfriend, Greg, also passed away on 12/13 from his battle with depression and addiction. Her last wish before her tragic death was to raise money for the The Daily Planet (https://dailyplanetva.org/), which is a free clinic that Greg was working with to obtain help. Mental health and access to help is so dire. Any funds raised over and above the commemorative bench will be donated in Greg and Sara's names.

Sara's life was so special and she impacted so many people. Share your story with us here: https://www.tribute.co/sara-nelson/
