Sara Mahn's Ovarian Cancer Fund

Donation protected
This beautiful girl is my sister Sara. Early last year, Sara went to the hospital for intense pain in her stomach. After numerous tests and scans she was admitted to the hospital for emergency surgery to cure torsion of her ovary. Shortly after her surgery we learned that Sara had ovarian cancer. This was devastating to hear and our family banded together to support her as she recovered and healed. We were told that the cancer was gone and all she needed to do was continue with regular checkups and scans.

A few months ago Sara began experiencing pain in her stomach again. She went to the doctor and a mass was visible where her ovary had once been. A biopsy was performed and it was concluded that her cancer was back. Sara made the courageous decision to have a full hysterectomy to remove all cancer from her body. This was a brave decision, and a smart one, as the doctor found new tumors growing on her other ovary and uterus.

Unfortunately this is not the end for Sara. She was upgraded to stage 3 and there appear to be additional areas of cancer. Sara will undergo four rounds of chemotherapy to kill any residual cancer that may still be in her body. Additionally, a side effect of this kind of cancer is early onset arthritis. Sara has been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in both of her hips, and also has severe carpel tunnel in her (dominant) hand. She will have to undergo surgery for her hips and her wrist in the near future.

Sara is the kindest person I know, with the most generous heart. She doesn’t blink an eye to help others in any capacity she can. She works double shifts at work while in pain because she loves her job and loves her customers. She colored a picture for her roommate at the hospital who was going through a tough time, despite her having just had a major surgery herself. And most of all, she loves people fully and with true compassion, constantly putting them before herself.

With four rounds of chemotherapy and two more additional surgeries, Sara is facing a tough financial situation. She will be in and out of work for the next few months and will have limited mobility as she recovers. Our family is doing everything that we can to help cover her expenses, and now we’re asking for help. Please consider making a donation to help ease the financial burden this cancer has created for Sara. Any funds that do not get used to help cover expenses will be donated to Ovarian Cancer research.

On behalf of my family and Sara, I thank you all in advance for any help and support you can give. Help us keep Sara smiling as she battles through this. Remember: #nobodyfightsalone
