"Sara Desperately Needs Some Help"

Donation protected
Sara Pianalto, my daughter, your friend, and most importantly Anthony's loving mother is vigorously working to fight the disease of Addiction.  Her addiction is to alcohol.  This disease is chronic and progressive.  It is one that can not be cured, but with proper treatment, can be controlled.   Without treatment or engagement in recovery activities,  the progression of this disease can, and often does result in disability or premature death.

Sara entered into a 28 day inpatient treatment on May 1, 2018 at Hazelden in Center City, MN.  She sought this treatment on her own after several unsuccessful attempts to fight this with less intensive treatments and countless AA meetings.  While in treatment, she worked all day, everyday, learning about herself, the disease, and what it takes for her to live in recovery. Living in recovery will be something she needs to manage daily, just like those with other chronic illnesses.

Her addiction care team strongly suggested that after the 28 days, she step down to the next level of care for an additional 4 weeks.  The step down in care that was suggested for her, involves the highest level of rehab with access to recovery coaching, and residency at the Center City Hazelden facility.  The focus for this treatment model is transitioning patients back into real life.  Patients have programming for part of the day and then are encouraged to leave campus to engage in sober activities, and attend various AA meetings, including those in their own neighborhoods.

The programming included in this model of care is covered by her health insurance, but the residency portion is not.  After her initial 28 day stay,  against her care team's advice, she returned home on May 29 and tried a less intensive outpatient program with no accountability.  This choice was strictly due to the fact she was unable to pay for the required out of pocket residency charges.

Unfortunately, she returned to Hazelden on June 11, due to relapse. Thankfully, insurance approved a short period back to the  inpatient program for her to restabilize.  Her counselors, care team, and insurance have advised her it is crucial for her recovery to do the next level of treatment as previously recommended.

Hazelden has granted Sara a substantial discount due to her financial hardship, but even with this discount, she doesn't have the funds to cover the costs.

At this time, I humbly ask with the utmost urgency,  if you have anything to spare, please help my daughter receive the level of care she still needs.  Her inpatient care ends on JUNE 20, and needs to have at least one week's payment portion at that time.  If you can't make a monetary donation I ask that you please send loving healing thoughts to all of those struggling with addiction.

She has the been advised and approved to stay at this next level of care for up to 4 weeks, but no less than 2 weeks.  Becoming an addict or alcoholic doesn't happen overnight, and learning to live in recovery is hard work, and also doesn't happen overnight.

She has learned she doesn't need to be ashamed of this disease, and would be willing and eager to share information with anyone that may have questions.  She is passionate to educate and help reduce the negative stigma that "Addiction" seems to carry, especially for women and mothers.

*She reminds me, if "Addiction" wasn't a disease, would treatment be covered by insurance?....Probably not!
