I have a very special place in my heart for shelter workers who sacrifice so much of themselves to care for lost or homeless animals in need.  One of the best ways we can give back to these hard working earth angels is to care for them in their own pet's time of need.  Today I am asking for help for Sara and Shirin. 

Sara Gillette is the Canine Foster Coordinator for Kansas City Pet Project; she has been there for nearly 8 years, tirelessly giving her heart to each animal she encounters.  Before she joined the staff she was first the foster mom to a snippy all-white fluffy puppy that came to KCPP with a broken leg.  That puppy was Shirin.  Shirin and Sara share a special bond gained through nurturing Shirin through her injury and training her through her behavioral quirks to become the loving, stunningly beautiful creature that she is today. 

Despite her usual spunky nature and cherub smile, today Shirin is sick.  So sick that she has been hospitalized with an infection that is taxing her liver.  Shirin needs round-the-clock medical care to stablized her and begin treatment.  At only 8 years old, Shirin has a lot of living and loving to give.   I don't want Sara to have to say goodbye if we can do anything about it.

I want to be there to help Sara the way she has been there to help thousands of animals.  If you know Sara and have been touched by her commitment to either her animals or the level of support she gives the foster families she works with, please give.  Or if you know someone like Sara and, like me, want to take care of the people doing lifesaving work in animal shelters, please give.
