We are a foursome of “grandmas” that came together to support a strong and resilient mother of four young children who arrived in this country a year ago through Catholic Community Services as a fully vetted refugee from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Her short-term goals upon arrival were to give her children a safe and healthy home, an education she never received and to get a job that would provide for her family. Her long-term goals are to become a nurse and find housing that has a backyard for her children to play.

Since arriving in March of 2024, Saphir has mastered the public transportation system in Tucson, enrolled her oldest son in kindergarten, studied and passed the driver permit test, enrolled in GED classes at Pima Community College, graduated from a caregiving training program and obtained her first full-time caregiving job in a memory care unit. She loves caring for these older adults, but the bus ride from her apartment is an hour one way. This means she must be away from her children almost all of their waking hours 5 days a week.

To make this job sustainable and many aspects of her life easier, we are asking for help to buy her a vehicle that can transport her and her four children who all still require car seats or booster seats. We are looking for a reliable older model minivan.
