Sap Bush Hollow Honor Store: Investing in trust

In response to the Pandemic, Sap Bush Hollow Farm & Cafe, located in the heart of the rural hamlet of West Fulton, NY, created a 24-7 Honor store on the property. While the cafe had to be closed, the shop became a symbol for the trust and connectedness of our family and extended farm community. When folks were expected to maintain social distancing, the store was a safe option for obtaining Sap Bush farm meats and other local and regionally-sourced groceries.

 

On March 19, in the middle of the night, Sap Bush Hollow Farm's Honor Store and two other nearby locations were deliberately targeted in a drive-by shooting.

 

While no one was hurt, damages at this point are estimated at around $23,000, plus loss of business revenue and the requirement for additional security measures. 

 

Our cafe operates every Saturday from April through December, and is a gathering spot for community members, folks visiting the area, and regional customers. We have patched up the Honor Store as best we can, and we are limping along with our damaged equipment. We are not sure how much of our claim will be reimbursed by insurance. We would like to fully restore the shop so that our customers can continue to have this convenience.

 

But it's about a lot more than convenience. We strongly believe in re-investing in trust and connectedness despite the recent shooting. These qualities, so abundant in our town, are helping us take steps to ensure our safety and restore our spirits. GOOD NEWS UPDATE:  We are happy to report that it looks like we will be able to collect on insurance to cover the cost of lost equipment.  Therefore, we have reduced the goal of our GoFundMe Campaign to only cover the installation of new security systems to protect our customers and neighbors around the building.  Thank you for all your help!!!!
