I have been coaching for 15 years, 10 years at Manhasset. I have been the varsity soccer coach for six years and this past spring would have been my fourth as the varsity baseball coach. I met Santos when he was in ninth grade. He loved P.E. and soccer even more. I urged him to tryout out for the team each year but he always had to work and couldn't find the time. Finally, in his senior year he came out and made the varsity soccer team. He was so excited to be part of the Manhasset Sports community. His teammates loved him and rooted for him. Santos was so happy to be there and always played with so much energy and passion. About thirty seconds after scoring his first and last varsity goal, he hurt his knee and his season was over. Santos worked extremely hard to get back into game shape before the end of the season and he got back on the field for our last game of the season. His knee injury, although wasn't major, required a doctor visit back in 2016. Unfortunately his insurance didn't cover all of it and his secondary insurance forms were not submitted properly. By the time Santos found out, he owed almost $3,000, it was too late and a collections agency started billing him. We tried to back date the insurance and attempted to settle on a fair price but apparently the attempts to collect have gone on for too long. They will only accept the lump sum at this point which has grown over the last few years. Santos worked his butt off to graduate high school and support his family at the same time. Clearly there was a miscommunication somewhere, but Santos should not be penalized for playing high school soccer. We are grateful and thankful for any and all donations you can afford during this difficult time. Thank you.Organizer and beneficiary
