Dear global audience,
My name is Santiago Bedoya, and I am a 15-year-old ballet dancer from Medellin, Colombia. For the past seven years, I have dedicated my life to the study of classical ballet. As ballet is an expensive calling, my family has had to work overtime to support my dream.
On my journey to becoming a professional dancer, I have received numerous invitations to participate in prestigious summer intensive (SI) programs throughout the United States. These invitations include the Houston Ballet SI (2017, 2018), the Miami City Ballet SI (2015, 2016, 2017), the American Ballet Theater (2016, 2017), and the San Francisco Ballet (2016, 2017). Although all of these world famous programs offered me some form of scholarship, I chose to attend the Miami City Ballet SI 2016, 2017 and the Houston Ballet SI 2018 because they awarded me full financial support, which covered all of my tuition and room and board. It is this form of assistance that continues to allow young dancers, such as me, to pursue our dreams.
During my recent training at the Houston Ballet, I auditioned for the year round program, and won the opportunity to attend their year-round professional academy. Not only, did they grant me a full scholarship to their SI program, but they also agreed to cover the cost of my year-round training. This was all very sudden and exciting, until I found out that there were many additional hidden expenses to this award.
It all comes back to support. In order to continue to pursue my dream, I need donations. I cannot do it alone. I am reaching out to the global community because it is for you that I am dancing. In order to continue to share my gift with you, I need funds for food, rent, American health insurance, an online academic program, plane tickets, and ballet costumes.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that has an expiration date. Please help continue to make my dream come true. I have worked so hard to be where I am today, and I cannot let insufficient funds be the wall that separates me from my destiny. Your generous contribution will continue to ensure that boys like me can bring the beauty of ballet to the world stage.
With love and many thanks,
Santiago Bedoya

Santiago Bedoya
