On behalf of the the Alcequiez and Hernandez family, I'd like to take a quick moment to thank you for taking a minute out of your busy day to read this.
For all of those who are blessed enough to know Chaga, we all know what a sweet, generous, wise and positive person she is. She is a role model to all women- selfless, loyal and always willing to help. Chaga has always made it a point in her life to stay fit and healthy, and has always encouraged everyone around her to do the same.
For all of those who dont know her, or dont know what a 180 degree spin her life has taken.
Mid August, she was terribly sick with a migraine. After a call to 911, they discovered her migraine was only a symptom of a major stroke. She was rushed to Boston for emergency brain surgery. We were all in SHOCK as to how this could have happened to this perfectly healthy and fit 53 year old. After weeks of research and testing, the amazing team at Mass General Hospital informed us that the bleeding was caused by the pressure of a baseball-sized tumor. With a second surgery, they were able to successfully remove 99% of the tumor and performed a full biopsy of the mass. Unfortunately, the results showed that she stage 4 Glioblastoma.
The doctors do not want her going back to the Dominican Republic for treatment as this cancer is advanced and very aggressive. Many family members have traveled to the US to help her. Her son Lenny and daughter Indira have traveled back and forth from Santo Domingo several times since August. They have left their spouses and children for weeks at time to come and take care of their mother. Fortunately she has family in New Hampshire that have been gracious to open their home, but the 1 1/2 hour drive to and from Boston 5 days a week for the next 6 weeks will soon be too much as the treatments become more intense. For this reason, we are looking into a short term rental in Boston.
Because this is happening so fast, we are still unaware what the expectations are as far as the medical bills are concerned. We are working with the state and the hospital to see how they can help with this part.
We understand that we are approaching an expensive time of year with the holidays coming, but it is also a very giving time of year. We are asking for any donation to help cover the cost of necessary expenses, including housing and travel expenses.
The doctors are amazed at how strong Chaga has been through both surgeries. Her recoveries have been like nothing they have ever seen before. Chaga is a rock, emotionally and spiritually. We ask that even if you cant donate at this time, to please pray for her healing, and that her strength and faith remains as strong as ever.

En nombre de la familia Alcequiez y Hernández, me gustaría tomar un momento rápido para darle las gracias por tomar un minuto de su día ocupado para leer esto.
Para todos aquellos que tienen la bendición suficiente para conocer a Chaga, todos sabemos lo que es una persona dulce, generosa, sabia y positiva. Ella es un modelo a seguir para todas las mujeres: desinteresada, leal y siempre dispuesta a ayudar. Chaga siempre ha hecho un punto en su vida para mantenerse en forma y saludable, y siempre ha alentado a todos a su alrededor a hacer lo mismo.
Para todos aquellos que no la conocen, o no saben lo que un giro de 180 grados de su vida ha tomado.
A mediados de agosto, estaba terriblemente enferma de migraña. Después de una llamada al 911, descubrieron que su migraña era sólo un síntoma de un accidente cerebrovascular importante. Fue trasladada a Boston para una cirugía cerebral de emergencia. Estábamos todos en SHOCK en cuanto a cómo esto podría haber sucedido a este perfectamente sano y en forma de 53 años de edad. Después de semanas de investigación y pruebas, el increíble equipo del Hospital General de la Misa nos informó que el sangrado fue causado por la presión de un tumor de tamaño de béisbol. Con una segunda cirugía, fueron capaces de eliminar con éxito el 99% del tumor y realizó una biopsia completa de la masa. Desafortunadamente, los resultados mostraron que la etapa 4 Glioblastoma.
Los médicos no quieren que regrese a la República Dominicana para recibir tratamiento ya que este cáncer es avanzado y muy agresivo. Muchos miembros de la familia han viajado a los Estados Unidos para ayudarla. Su hijo Lenny y su hija Indira han viajado de Santo Domingo varias veces desde agosto. Ellos han dejado a sus cónyuges e hijos por semanas en el momento de venir a cuidar de su madre. Afortunadamente tiene familia en New Hampshire que ha sido amable de abrir su casa, pero el 1 1/2 hora en coche a Boston y de 5 días a la semana durante las próximas 6 semanas pronto será demasiado ya que los tratamientos se vuelven más intensos. Por esta razón, estamos buscando en un alquiler a corto plazo en Boston.
Porque esto está sucediendo tan rápidamente, todavía no estamos enterados de cuáles son las expectativas en cuanto a las cuentas médicas se refiere. Estamos trabajando con el estado y el hospital para ver cómo pueden ayudar con esta parte.
Entendemos que nos estamos acercando a una época cara del año con las vacaciones que vienen, pero es también una época que da muy del año. Estamos pidiendo cualquier donación para ayudar a cubrir el costo de los gastos necesarios, incluyendo la vivienda y los gastos de viaje.
Los médicos se sorprenden de lo fuerte que ha sido Chaga a través de ambas cirugías. Sus recuperaciones han sido como nada que hayan visto antes. Chaga es una roca, emocional y espiritualmente. Le pedimos que incluso si usted no puede donar en este momento, para orar por favor para su curación, y que su fuerza y fe sigue siendo tan fuerte como siempre.
