Many of you know about my son, Santiago. Since birth, he has been diagnosed with a rare liver disease called biliary atresia. Despite everything, our baby boy has remained incredibly strong and joyful throughout his 13-month journey, which has included frequent hospital visits and extended stays.
For those who may not be up to date, Santiago underwent his first surgery—called the Kasai procedure—within his first month of life. While he bravely made it through that surgery, we later received the difficult news that he would still require a liver transplant. After many visits and stays at Rady Children’s Hospital, we were incredibly blessed to receive a liver donor just a few weeks ago, which allowed him to undergo the transplant surgery.
Since then, Santiago has faced several complications common in very young transplant patients and has had to undergo more than five additional surgeries.
Any support—whether it’s financial assistance, prayers, or simply sharing his story—is deeply appreciated. Your help will go toward the many expenses we’re facing, including relocation costs, medical bills, and unforeseen costs tied to his recovery, as well as copays and deductibles from his surgeries.
