Santarsieri Family Support During ALS
Donation protected
If you worked in the spa industry in California then you know Kate Santarsieri. Right now, we need to pull together to help Kate and her family. Our industry is about healing and loving people. Additionally, Kate was a mentor to me and took me under her wing when I started in the spa industry. When I was diagnosed with cancer she spearheaded several support avenues for my family and I to get through the three years of treatment. If you know Kate, you know her heart is just as big as her smile!
I encourage you to please read the most recent update in their battle with ALS:
Medi-Cal, food stamps and Great Plates have all denied the family. Kate has had one extension to her unemployment benefits but that ends July 4th. The only other income is $278 a month Disability.
They currently pay out of pocket for a carer 15 hours a week with Kate caring for the other 153 hours (both day and night).
Donato has been rushed to hospital twice in the past 3 months and another time for surgery. All during Covid, with no family allowed to go with him.
ALS is now on his lungs and Kate uses 6 different machines to keep him clear of chocking. Feeding is very difficult and speaking even more so. They call ALS/MND the ‘glass coffin’ and Donato has only a short time left with his family.
We are hoping to raise funds so that his family can bring in the carer a little more than the present 15 hours a week. Also to help with the ever increasing mountains of Health insurance charges and paperwork.
The family also had a major flood in their home Feb 26th and have gone through 10 weeks of construction. With no hot water, kitchen and laundry access, they have leaned heavily on good neighbors and friends. Currently Kate is trying to fight with the insurance company for a claim for their white electrics, household items ruined by the flood and food expenses. The construction company is also requesting payment and has threatened a lien
against there house today.

These have been trying and difficult times, the world over, but the Santarsieri family are also coping with ALS, unemployment, flood, insurance claims (both medical and property). The family also had a major leak underground near the house and Kate is now trying to work with the City to pay the $2,800 water bill that they are demanding.
As life starts to get back to a ‘new normal’ with hotel, spas, restaurants opening their doors again, unfortunately this family has a little more to cope with.
Please help if you can. $5 helps an enormous amount to this family.
