Santa Rosa Wild Fire Destroyed My Family's Homes
Donation protected
1:00 am on Monday morning, my parents, my sister and her boyfriend had to evacuate their homes as the Glass Fire in Northern California was quickly approaching where they lived.
Propelled by furious winds, the fires raced down the mountain toward them leaving very little time to grab a few belongings, the dogs and the cat before escaping their homes of 8 and 10 years. They got out just in time before the evacuation route was engulfed in flames shortly after.
My younger brother had left town early Sunday morning for a job in Southern California. Not knowing there would be a fire, he left his car and the majority of his belongings that got lost in the fire as well.
My dad lost his entire wood shop of all his tools and a large collection of wood. My parents lost their home and car along with majority of their belongings. My sister and her boyfriend lost their home and belongings as well.
We are beyond grateful they were aware of how quickly this fire was moving and all made it out safely - sleeping in a Safeway parking lot that night.
All that being said, this was a devastating loss for them all. They will get through this and my older brother and I are doing everything in our power to get my parents set up with a home, etc., but they will all need a lot of help in the coming months to get back on their feet.
We greatly appreciate your generosity and support during this time. Thank you for taking the time to read this and if you would be so kind to share this link on your Facebook timeline to help get the word out, it would help tremendously!
Thanks again - Maggie & Kai Delozier
