This is Corinne Daly of Boutique Travel Services,
My dear friend and our colleague, Judith Blair's family home was badly damaged along with most of her town in Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica.
It was in the very eye of hurricane Melissa, 30 minutes north of the south coast where she made landfall. Her father is in his 80's and still lives there.
The house is just under 300 years old and has weathered so many storms, but this was different. The roof had to be replaced and everything inside is soaked through. They lost several fruit trees and bushes as well.
They do have water, but no power. They'll need everything from new ceilings to new mattresses. Materials are a ridiculous price, if they can find them.
Judith's brother Robert, is a fireman in the Kingston area and worked right through the storm. He managed to get the material and some men together to help with the roof. Her sister Dionne and
a couple of ladies are helping to clean up the mud and water. She is a seamstress and has a shop in town which managed to stay dry thank goodness. They had somewhere to go until the rain stopped.
She is booked to Kingston airport on November 10th and will stay till the 18th. She has a suitcase full of tools that friends have given her. Her brother Michael is in the US military and will head down around
the same time.
I just felt that since I can't be there to help, that we can let her know how much we care with this Go Fund Me site. Any donation is greatly appreciated. I'll make sure that she has it before she leaves.
Hopefully, she'll be able to help some of her neighbours as well.
Judith is a very strong and proud woman and I won't tell her about this until I take the money to her. I'll get a nice card and put everyone's names on it, (not the amounts of course).
Thank you in advance for your support.
Kind regards,
Corinne
