On November 24, 2020, Connie was rushed to a local hospital in St. Cloud, FL. She was suffering from severe breathing issues caused by the Covid-19 virus. Within the first 36 hours after her arrival the virus had completely taken over her ability to breathe on her own. Connie was put on a ventilator, which led to a medically induced coma that lasted over 5 weeks. Her pre-existing medical conditions made the fight that much more difficult, which caused her to be resuscitated twice. Within this time, she was transferred to another local hospital to undergo a plasma transfusion treatment to help increase her antibodies to fight the virus. Connie was 100% dependent on the ventilator, as her body was weak and fragile.
For weeks, Connie had more bad days then good, although it seemed endless that fact that she was still fighting was the enough to know she had a chance. Due to length of her dependency on the ventilator, she had a tracheotomy placed to further reduce damage to her esophagus.
After spending 65 days in the hospital, Connie is now in a rehabilitation center working on her physical and cognitive skills. She is undergoing extensive therapy to regain her motor skills. As she continues the recovery phase of her battle, she will be in need of financial support to make certain living accommodations at home. As we are glad to say she is #SansStrong and overcame her battle with Covid-19, the permanent damage is still unknown and her road to full recovery is a long one.
