San Miguel Community Garden

**You can still donate---Our garden and coop are always in need of repairs and improvements.  For example, we would like to have a better roof in our coop for shade and protection.
The San Miguel Community Garden is located in a rural preservation area of Las Vegas.  In 2013, it was an empty two- acre plot of dry, hard desert soil, but with the help of many volunteers, it has  blossomed into a thriving garden with more than 80 vegetable beds and a large orchard, where our chickens have free range.

From the beginning the community garden has had an open door policy so volunteers could come and go as they please.  Unfortunately, that changed on the night of Aug. 13, when someone entered the garden, and in an act of blatant cruelty, killed ten chickens, four ducks and a goose.  Many others were left injured and in shock.  The maliciousness of the attack is evident by the fact that one mate in each pair of ducks was killed.

Locks and motion sensor lights were installed the very next day,  but  we need additional security to protect our property and flock.  Your donation will help pay for security cameras and video surveillance.  We greatly appreciate any help you can give.

Dead birds were scattered throughout the orchard.

Blood splattered all over the coop.
