With heavy hearts, we are reaching out for support following the sudden and tragic passing of Sanju Rai, aged 25.
On 2 October 2026, Sanju was travelling back to Bathurst from Goulburn after attending her nursing placement. At approximately 5:00 pm near Black Springs, the vehicle she was travelling in was involved in a tragic accident. Sanju was a passenger and, despite efforts to save her, sadly could not be revived and passed away at the scene.
Sanju was an international student in the final semester of her nursing studies. She had worked incredibly hard and made significant sacrifices to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse in Australia. International study comes with substantial financial challenges, but after years of dedication and sacrifice, Sanju was almost at the finish line.
Her sudden passing has left her husband, family, friends and loved ones devastated.
In accordance with our cultural and family traditions, Sanju's family wishes to bring her home to Nepal for her final journey and funeral rites. The unexpected costs involved in repatriating Sanju to Nepal, together with funeral and other immediate expenses, place a significant financial burden on her family, who are not in a strong financial position to manage these costs alone.
At the request of Sanju's husband (Sagar Moktan) , I, Yogesh Rai brother of Sanju have organised this fundraiser and will be receiving the funds on behalf of the family. The funds raised will primarily help with bringing Sanju home to Nepal, her funeral and final rites, and other immediate expenses associated with this tragedy.
We humbly ask our friends, the Nepalese community, the wider community and anyone who is able to help to support Sanju and her family during this heartbreaking time.
Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference. If you are unable to donate, simply sharing this fundraiser would also mean a great deal to the family.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, prayers and support.
May Sanju Rai's soul rest in peace.
