Sanitary Spring Project

Frauen und Mädchen im ländlichen Uganda haben oft keinen Zugang zu Menstruationsartikeln. Die Folge: Während ihrer Periode nehmen sie nicht am Schulunterricht teil und bleiben zuhause.

Unser Ziel:

den kostenlosen Zugang zu Menstruationsartikeln zu ermöglichen und gleichzeitig Aufklärung zu diesem Thema zu leisten, das im ländlichen Raum oft als Tabu gilt. Wir wollen nachhaltig, in Zusammenarbeit mit lokalen Näherinnen Stoffbinden herstellen und diese anschließend in den Schulen verteilen.

Warum ist das wichtig?

In vielen Gemeinden fehlt es nicht nur an bezahlbaren Hygieneartikeln, sondern auch an Wissen über Menstruationshygiene. Wir möchten das ändern. Mit Workshops und einer besseren Versorgung arbeiten wir daran, dass Menstruation kein Mädchen mehr von Bildung und Chancen abhalten muss.

Aus ökologischen Gründen, möchten wir möglichst wenig Müll produzieren und fokussieren uns deshalb auf nachhaltige und wiederverwendbare Produkte.

Wer wir sind?

Wir sind Jobline (27) , in Bushenyi, in Westuganda aufgewachsen und June (19), Kölnerin, die in Bushenyi, im Rahmen von Weltwärts 2024, einen Freiwilligendienst geleistet hat.

Als Kollegen vor Ort, haben wir in einem Umweltprojekt gearbeitet und dort viele Schulen besucht. Dabei haben wir die Situation der Mädchen oft miterlebt.

Nach dieser Nachricht von Jobline, haben wir gemeinsam beschlossen etwas dafür zu tun, um die Situation der Mädchen zu verbessern.

Wie wollen wir das erreichen?

Mit den Spendengeldern wollen wir: Stoffe und Material kaufen, Näher_innen vor Ort bezahlen und die Binden verteilen.

Uns ist bewusst, dass wir damit nicht ganz Uganda versorgen können.

Wir beschränken uns deshalb auf die Region, rund um den Ort Bushenyi, in Südwestugandas, da wir dort persönliche Kontakte haben und garantieren können, dass die Hilfe ankommt.

Alle Spendengelder werden für den Kauf von Stoffen und die Bezahlung von Näher_innen vor Ort verwendet und die Produkte werden persönlich von uns an die Schulen gebracht.

Überbleibende Gelder werden als Spende an eine lokale Organisation, die sich für Frauen in Uganda einsetzt, gespendet.

Women and girls in rural Uganda often have no access to menstrual products. As a result, they do not attend school during their period and stay at home.

Our goal:

To provide free access to menstrual products and at the same time provide education on this topic, which is often considered taboo in rural areas. We want to produce sustainable sanitary pads in collaboration with local seamstresses and then distribute them in schools.

Why is this important?

In many communities, there is not only a lack of affordable sanitary products, but also a lack of knowledge about menstrual hygiene. We want to change that. With workshops and better supplies, we are working to ensure that menstruation no longer has to hold girls back from education and opportunities.

For ecological reasons, we want to produce as little waste as possible and therefore focus on sustainable and reusable products.

Who are we?

We are Jobline, a Ugandan who grew up in Bushenyi, in Western Uganda, and June, a woman from Cologne who did voluntary service in Bushenyi as part of Weltwärts 2024.

As colleagues on site, we worked on an environmental project and visited many schools there. We often witnessed the situation of the girls.

After this message from Jobline, we decided together to do something to improve the girls' situation.

How do we want to achieve this?

We want to use the donations to buy fabrics and materials, pay local seamstresses and distribute the pads.

We are aware that we will not be able to supply the whole of Uganda.

We are therefore limiting ourselves to the region around the town of Bushenyi in southwest Uganda, as we have personal contacts there and can guarantee that the aid will arrive.

All donations will be used to buy fabrics and pay local seamstresses, and we will personally deliver the products to the schools.

Any money left over will be donated to a local organization that supports women in Uganda.
