Sanitary pads for women in Jaipur
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Aliya Klugman Harris, I am a 15 year old from the Sunshine Coast in Australia and together with my uncle Lincoln Harris, I am organising a fundraiser for women in Jaipur, India.
In the past my family has supported an NGO called Naya Sawera which works to provide free and low-cost sanitary pads to disadvantaged women in Jaipur and the surrounding countryside. Covid has greatly impacted employment opportunities in Jaipur and across India - not only is there less work, there is also more competition for work, which is leading to lower rates of pay - as low as $2 to $3 for a full day's work. This means many families are making do with less, including mothers, sisters and daughters not having money to buy sanitary pads. In addition, I was very sad to learn that some women cannot afford underwear - I can hardly imagine how stressful and difficult this makes their lives each month.
With this campaign I am hoping to raise enough money for Naya Sawera to provide 250 pairs of underwear (at approximately $2 each) and 1500 packets of pads (40 cents per packet). Three of my family members have agreed to match the amount raised through this campaign up to $200 each - meaning if I raise $500 through the campaign the total amount to be donated will be $1100!
Lincoln will transfer the funds to Naya Sawera and I will provide an update to everyone who donates once the items are distributed.
You can read more about the work of Naya Sawera at http://www.nayasawera.org/
Thank you so much for your support and I hope this small effort can make a big difference to the lives of some women in Jaipur.
