This fundraiser was started about 10 months ago for Sandy Lucas, who, like me, participates in an on-line exercise class, through UVM, for cancer survivors. Over the years, starting with COVID, this class has become a real community, whose members care about and support each other. So, we were shocked and saddened to hear that on May 3, 2025, a fire at Northern Meridian Senior Housing in South Burlington, Vermont, left Sandy, along with more than 50 other residents, homeless.
With the help of this GoFundMe--which, so far, has raised almost $4,000 in small donations--Sandy was able to move to a trailer park in northern Vermont, where she has been living since last fall. While she is very grateful not to be homeless, her current home is in a very rural area where she has only limited opportunities for social interaction or access to shopping and services. And she sorely misses her long-time friends in South Burlington.
So now that her six-month lease at the trailer park is up, Sandy is ready to accomplish her ultimate goal of returning to South Burlington.
She has found an apartment in a large complex with lower rent and many oppotinities to participate in social activities and hopes to move in on March 12, less than a month from now. But she needs your help to pay for the moving expenses, which we estimate to be about $3,000.
So, if you can, please make a donation now and enable Sandy to move "from hope to home."
