Our mom, Sandy, has faced challenges her entire life. She’s overcome hardship after hardship with quiet strength, never losing her kindness, generosity, or love for her family. She’s always been the one to lift others up. Now it’s our turn to lift her.
In October 2024, Sandy was diagnosed with bulbar ALS, an aggressive form of Lou Gehrig’s disease that affects her ability to speak, swallow, and eventually move. This disease is fatal, and life expectancy is 2-5 years. However, we are uncertain when this started prior to diagnosis. As of now, she can no longer eat or drink, resulting in a feeding tube. She cannot speak or swallow and is starting to have difficulty breathing. It’s a devastating diagnosis, but Sandy is still Sandy... the woman who lights up when she’s tinkering in her pond, at the beach, going to new places, and who treasures every moment with her grandchildren.
This disease is moving fast, and the financial burden is heavy:
• Medical necessities like adaptive equipment and home modifications
• Keeping up the house so she can remain safe and comfortable
• Making precious memories while we still can
Our dad, who should be enjoying his retirement, is instead working every weekend and considering a second job. But every extra hour away from home means less time with Mom, and Mom is home alone.
Sandy has spent her whole life giving to others. She deserves comfort, dignity, and moments of joy despite the diagnosis. Your donation will help make that possible.
Please donate if you can, and share this page with others. Every gift, big or small, brings us closer to giving my mom the break she’s earned and the love she has always given so freely.
With heartfelt gratitude,
The Krzan/Barry/Family
