Sandy's Paralyzing Stroke

Donation protected
On December 17th, 2021 my mom and best friend, Sandy, was rushed to the ER. She went from being an active, energetic 74-year-old in prime health to becoming paralyzed overnight. The road to recovery has been difficult and we are asking for your support in providing her with the best care possible.

The day of my mom’s stroke was like any other. She worked her job in the produce and floral department at Wegmans where she simply loved helping others and we later spoke on the phone that evening as we always did, not knowing it would be our last time doing so in this way.

Hours later, my mom’s heart went into Afib, causing blood to pool in her heart, creating a massive brain clot and causing a major stroke. For possibly up to six hours, she was struggling for her life and endured a demand-mediated heart attack. When she was found by my brother, she was unable to maintain her airway.

Eight months later, she continues to resist death and find her way back to life, which is now entirely centered on her recovery after becoming paralyzed on the right size of her body, unable to speak or eat, and blind in the right side of both eyes. Throughout her journey, she has spent six days in the ICU, 42 days in the hospital, and three months in inpatient rehabilitation, not including ER visits and hospital admissions due to non-convulsive seizures and Covid.

We don’t know what the future holds. However, we do know there has been a monetary cost to my mom trying to live with a heart failure diagnosis. She currently owes over $25,000 in medical bills and has $400 co-pays, ongoing drug co-pays of $1,000/month and weekly care supplies costing upwards of $60/week.

All of this has taken a toll on everyone close to my mom, and our entire world has flipped upside down. The need has been greater than we imagined as my mom has not been able to return to her home and requires 24hr care.

We have made it our mission to try and give her the best shot at recovery so she can heal to the best of her ability. Her healing has let us know that miracles and healing are possible.

We know that it takes many hearts to stand on two feet.

Support including financial contributions of any amount, prayers, and well-wishes are so deeply appreciated. We share everything with our mom, and although she no longer seems able to make tears, she cries with awe, wonder, and gratitude at the kindness and well wishes others have extended towards her during this time.

THANK YOU!!
