Hello Family and Friends,
As you all now know, our mom has a rare form of liver/bile duct cancer. After a few (too many!) weeks of intense abdominal discomfort we learned that it was not stemming from GERD or a stomach ulcer, but in fact Cholangeocarcinoma. The tumor is in her bile duct, and the doctors currently believe it is stemming from her gall bladder.
Surgery is not yet scheduled, although it is looking as though it will be in the next 2-3 weeks. Her doctor will go in arthroscopically first to make sure everything is as we currently believe it to be, and if it is, continue with the resection then and there. If he finds things to be a bit more complicated, he will leave everything untouched and we will explore our options from there.
Up until now, Sandy has been the picture of health. She's strong and capable, and thus has maintained a very simple health insurance plan. Her deductible is on the high side, and up to 20% of her medical costs will fall outside of coverage. Anything you can contribute will go towards managing medical bills or maintaing expenses that her lessened work schedule will likely make more difficult.
We feel confident in her doctors (Mom says they're easy on the eyes too! Bonus!) and know this lady can tackle it. Its going to be a tough road at times, but with all of your support she will come out good as new on the other side of it. Now is the time to focus on the plan ahead and be encouraging and optimistic for our strong-willed mama! We are beyond grateful to know that she has such a wonderful community of loving and generous people in her life.
