The Journey:
Some of you might know Sandy as the History & Bible teacher at Vineyard Christian School for the last 8 years. Others might recognize Sandy from pastoring and ministry leadership positions he’s held over the past 35 plus years. So many people have been a part of his life and brought him joy! Recently, the journey has taken a twist, and Sandy has been diagnosed with Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer. He is presently going through chemotherapy at City of Hope for 3 months with the hope of killing off any lingering cancer outside his bladder. After which, he will undergo “Neobladder” reconstructive surgery at Cedar-Sinai. The prognosis is very positive, with a 75% chance of cancer free life after surgery!
The Need:
Sandy has been blessed to be surrounded by a first class medical team and much of the medical cost will be covered by insurance. The challenge will be finances - not healthcare. Working for a private school, employees are not covered by State Disability Insurance. The school has private disability insurance which covers 60% of the monthly income, but does not pay until after the first 90 days. Most likely, Sandy will only be out of work no more than 120 days, so the disability insurance becomes largely unhelpful. The hope is to raise enough money to keep Sandy’s bills paid, until he is healthy enough to return to work on January 1st, 2019.
The Prayers:
One thing that has been a point of strength and encouragement, has been the overwhelming support of prayers from friends and family. Through this new and exciting journey that God has for him, Sandy has been buoyed by the love and concern of so many. Please continue to pray for strength, wisdom and love, as we see God’s hand move over the coming months.
