SANDY THE WAR HORSE MEMORIAL
Donation protected
Sandy came from the small town of Tallangatta in rural Victoria and was the only horse out of 139,000 that were sent overseas to be returned home after the 1st World War.
He was the favourite horse of 'Sir Major General William Bridges' who was sadly fatally wounded at Gallipoli, his one dying wish was for his adored horse Sandy to be sent back to Australia to live out his days in comfort.
Sandy was sent to Remount Hills stables at Marribynong where he was able to live out his days until 1923 when due to his failing eyesight and debilitating old age he was humanely put to sleep.
The Community of Tallangatta wish to raise funds in order to create a lasting Memorial so future generations can know the story of 'Sandy the War Horse' this unique Australian horse who served along side our brave troops on the front line.
Your help and support for this great Australian historical story would be greatly appreciated by all in the community of Tallangatta and the many visitors who frequent the town.
