Sandy Smith ❤️ God’s. Got. This!!!

Sandy Smith. We call her Mimi.

I was standing at the kitchen island one day in 2016, thinking about the deep love that Sandy and Jay have for my daughter, when God spoke to me “Mimi and Poppy.” I immediately called Mallory, one of my best friends, “Can we call your parents Mimi and Poppy? They said YES! Sweet Mimi has been there for both of my girls in SO many ways, even attending Jade’s adoption finalization. It is LOVE that makes a family. My girls favor Mimi; we even gave her a shirt that reads “Move over Mommy. Move over Mallory. I want Mimi!”

Little did I know, being a Mimi would be Sandy’s only chance at being a “grandmother.”

When we met Mimi, she was happy, healthy, and active! She would pick my girls up from daycare for “Mimi days” at the library or the park. She made sure to let others know “I am a Mimi!”

It was only a couple years into our vibrant relationship that I was told the cancer that Mimi beat was back. Cancer? Back? What?!

I learned that Mimi was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the age of 54. She beat it. A few years later, the pancreatic cancer was now in her lungs. Surprisingly, she wasn’t worried. She would say in full confidence “God’s. Got. This!!!” She was OUR strength. And I saw her body get stronger. Mimi was beating cancer again! Right?

In June 2020, I was given a heartbreaking phone call from Mallory after she learned that the cancer was spread to her liver. The doctors were giving Mimi 2 weeks to 2 months left to live. I felt paralyzed. I knew that every visit and phone call could be our last. But Mimi refused to agree. She kept saying “God’s. Got. This!!!”

While the doctors recommended comfort care with hospice, Mimi chose ongoing treatment instead, and continued to amaze her doctors! They didn't understand how she was still alive. She told them “God’s. Got. This!!!” That faith gave everyone more time with her. Including her daughter Katie’s wedding June 2021. And my girls were honored to be flower girls alongside their Mimi.

Now, at the young age of 61, the chemo has stopped working, the experimental drug hasn’t helped, and she needs oxygen support at home.

Even though Mimi is completely exhausted from her long courageous battle of fighting pancreatic cancer, she still tells others: God's. Got. This!!!, and God has a plan!

On Thursday, April 21, 2022, they gave Mimi 2 weeks. And this time she’s thinking they may be right. And she still says God's. Got. This!!!

As she is preparing herself and her family for what’s to come, she has expressed to me her concern about family finances. My first reaction was “this is the LAST thing you need to think about!” but she has told me that she worries all the time about family financial hardship. I told her not to worry. “God’s. Got. This!!!” And then, I got the idea… Let’s help!! And let’s help her NOW so she can see God’s. Got. This!!!

We don’t have much time.

She is always helping others; let’s help her! There are so many expenses ~ loss of income with family taking time off work, medical bills, upcoming funeral expenses, etc. She even requested no funeral at one point, so the family doesn’t have to carry the financial burden.

I know that as we rally together, we can give Mimi an amazing gift of PEACE knowing that her family is going to be OK not just emotionally, but financially.

Please keep Mimi and everyone she loves in your prayers. Thank you for supporting this amazing family… that has become mine.

Any gift amount would be a blessing, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100, $200, $500, $1000 etc. And please SHARE with your family, friends, and social networks. We never know who may be led to give.

Feel free to leave a comment and/or video of how Sandy has impacted your life below, and we will make sure Mimi and the family sees it!

Thank you for loving Sandy Smith, our forever Mimi.

With your help, she will see God’s. Got. This!!!
