Friends, Family, and Supporters: we are asking for your monetary help to support The Laurie Family as Stuart continues fights for his life.

In the last 10 days, this family has experienced their worst nightmare. Stuart was sent in on Friday, November 8th for a valve replacement and bypass surgery at Foothills Hospital in Calgary. This 5-hour surgery took a turn for the worst, and after 17 hours in the O.R. the family was notified that he had been placed into an induced coma and on life support. After days of hoping and praying, over 100 blood transfusions and SEVEN additional Operating Room visits, the family is still holding on to the very small chance they have been given for his survival.

As a previous cancer survivor and heart patient, Stuart has always been known to stay persistence and resilient when faced with adversity. The doctors are amazed by his willingness to live for his family. Although he is unable to move or speak at this time, we know that his only hope is that his 4 children and wife are taken care of, something he is currently unable to do for them.

Stuart worked 12-hour shifts for months leading up to this surgery until doctors notified him that his job was increasing his risks of heart failure and exposure to chemicals. We can only assume that he will likely never get the opportunity to return to this position due to the stress it has placed on both his lungs and heart.

As someone who has had his back up against the wall in terms of his health, insurance companies were unwilling to take on this burden- leaving his 17-year-old son, 19-year-old daughter and wife of 20+ years to fund themselves during this extremely trying time. The entire family has not left his side and has been living out of hotels and the hospital as they wait for a miracle.

Stu has 2 grand-daughters, 4 children and a multitude of support. He is always the first person to lend a helping hand, swallow his pride and go the extra mile for his family.

Today, we are asking for your support to help this family as we know Stu would. We need to band together as a community to support children and a wife who are living their worst nightmare.

Any finances that can be accumulated will be used for hotel expenses, travel, missed-work pay, food, etc. to ensure this family is taken care of during this time.

Money will never buy happiness, but it is one worry that we can control and contribute to.

In the meantime, #FightStuFight.
