Hi everyone!
My name is Sandra, and in May this year, I was given the news that no one wants to hear in that I had Motor Neurone Disease.
I had known for sometime there was something seriously wrong with me, but sadly wasn't taken seriously by various Doctors. Since June 2021 I've had approx 30 falls, with one resulting in a visit to Tallaght Hospital for a CT after I smacked into a gate post. And I only got diagnosed after I fell in the ambulance bay of St James and was then admitted for two weeks for tests
I am trying to carry on as normal as I can. . I am still working all be it from home. Even managed a visit home to see my parents in my hometown of Rothesay in Scotland in a wheelchair, but while I try to carry on, there are sacrifices already as a latecomer to driving at 44 I am now in a position where I have to give up driving just 4 years later.
We also had to move as we were made homeless due to our rental property being sold with my husband now as my full-time carer ( I need help going to the toilet, standing up, washing, getting dressed, even turning in the bed); it restricted where we could go, so we moved in with my amazing in-laws
Your kind donations will help us with medical costs that are not covered by the HSE such as a ramp, adjustable bed, voice banking. Hopefully, this will give me a chance to fight this wretched disease
Thank you for whatever you can give
