This is Sani a thirty eight year old single mother of five beautiful children. Sani has been suffering with neurological symptoms that have slowly been removing her abilities to partake in her activities of daily living. Sani will wake up in the morning and not be able to walk because her muscles will completely contract and she can't move for hours. She has also experienced extreme fatigue, sharp pains in her head, loss of muscle tone, and numbness on the left side of her body. She has been looking for answers from Doctors and has been continuously told that all medical tests have been normal therefore nothing is wrong despite the default diagnosis of anxiety and fibromyalgia pushing her further into feelings of hopelessness that life will just never be the same again. Her whole life before this Sani has been a very active mother always being personal cheerleader for all her children at every extra curricular activity. She is a compassionate PSW for one of the nursing homes in her community and despite all her health challenges still made it to work most days to share her smile and beautiful spirit with her residents and work family. Sani is not only a mother and a dedicated worker she is also an amazing sister, a loving daughter,a very involved Aunty,a shoulder to cry on for everyone in her inner circle of friends and a best friend to her grandparents.
As life would have it with many health conditions, it never too long before the the world as you know it is ripped right out from under you. As the ball dropped on New Year's Eve so did Sani with her first ever altered state of consciousness and seizure-like activity. It wasn't too long before she was rushed to the hospital where things just got worst with every hour. Her seizures went for eight hours apart to one right after another. These seizures don't resolve themselves without the help of a sedative to help her return to a conscious state. Her saving grace is that her seizing episodes are rare and not your typical seizure as her oxygen levels remain normal and she can stay in it for hours and has not yet been taken from us. Sani can no longer get out of bed without assistance and is slowly losing the function of her legs and the ability to walk. When Sani returns to a conscious state a little bit of her memory is removed and she can never recall the event or anything leading up to it. After several medical tests she still has no answers and therefore the doctors in her city had to refer her on for further investigation and treatment. Sani is heading out to London Ontario; she will be admitted to the epileptic unit where they can monitor her brain activity twenty four hours a day. With no answers yet there is still no end in sight and no expectations that she will be able to return to her normal life anytime soon. Having sharing her secret with the world we only do so in hopes with the goal of wanting to build a team of support around her and eliminate financial stress as she battles her own personal nightmare. So for anyone who takes the time to read this please know that every dollar will make a difference as the the cost of being 17 hours away from home is not one that comes without its financial constraints. Knowing that not everyone has money to give a prayer costs nothing and shared knowledge of similar experiences are also appreciated. Thank you for your time and don't forget to hug the ones you love.
