Hi, my name is Sherrie and I am setting up this fundraiser to benefit my friend and colleague, Sandra "Sandy" Derose. Sandy and I met over 10 years on the job. We both work as public servant registered nurses for a large public hospital system in Dallas, Texas. Last week, Sandy awoke to find the pupil in one of her eyes larger than the other. Those of us in the medical field call this a "blow out", a sign of a medical emergency. Sandy was taken to the hospital by ambulance and subsequently underwent emergency surgery to clip a brain aneurysm that was primed to rupture. Sandy recovered in the hospital, first in the ICU, before being discharged 5 days later. Recovery from brain surgery can be lengthy, and her doctors have given her a 6-10 week timeframe before she can return to work. Sandy has some PTO she can use and short-term disability at 50% pay starting in 42 days; however, this will in no way cover her monthly bills as well as the new medical costs she has now incurred. So, whether you know this remarkable person or not, I offer you an opportunity to turn the tables, to walk in Sandy's shoes by providing support to someone in need. Sandy is an amazing nurse who gives back to for her community. I hope you will reward her efforts by supporting her in her time of need.
