It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking loss of our sister Sandra and her husband Daniel, a devoted couple, passionate adventurers and professional mountaineers, who tragically passed away while climbing Mount Tocllaraju in Peru’s Cordillera Blanca.

In the early morning hours of June 17, 2026, Sandra and Daniel, and their friend, Floriano, were swept down in a fatal avalanche, which claimed the lives of Sandra and Daniel. Floriano miraculously survived and was rescued. Sandra’s and Daniel’s bodies were recovered by the dedicated team of mountain guides.

Our family is now facing the overwhelming grief of this loss, along with the substantial costs involved in bringing her home.

Sandra and Daniel dedicated their lives introducing people to the joys of mountain climbing in Daniel’s native Mexico. They inspired many through their courage, determination and love for the mountains and were highly respected in the international climbing community.

We are raising funds to help cover the following:

$28,500 - Search and Rescue Efforts

$25,000 - Repatriation to Canada

$20,000 - Foreign Legal and Estate Settlement Fees

Surplus, if any - Establishment of a Memorial Scholarship Fund
