My name is Brett, and I’m fundraising for my parents, Sandra (76) and Kevin (78), after they lost everything in a devastating house fire.

On Sunday, 28 December 2025, my parents’ home in Crib Point, Victoria caught fire. The fire started in the garage, and within a short time the house was completely destroyed. They lost their entire home and all of their belongings — clothes, furniture, personal items, and irreplaceable memories from the 12 years they lived there.

Thankfully, no one was physically injured. Their pets managed to escape, except for the fish inside the house. While we are grateful they are safe, the emotional and financial impact has been overwhelming.

This situation is made even more difficult by my dad Kevin’s health. Kevin is currently living with stage 4, inoperable cancer in his inner chest cavity. He has also previously had multiple melanomas removed from his head, lung, and arm. Both of my parents are retired, and they were living without home insurance, as their insurance had lapsed at the time of the fire.

Since the fire, my parents have been staying temporarily with my sister. The Salvation Army kindly assisted them with two nights of emergency accommodation in Flinders, but this was only a short-term solution. With their home completely destroyed and no insurance to fall back on, my parents are now facing the very real prospect of homelessness while they try to work out what comes next.

Right now, the most urgent needs are:

• Removal and clean-up of the fire-damaged house

• Clothing and basic necessities

• Medical costs and transport related to Kevin’s ongoing treatment

• Basic living expenses and temporary accommodation

My parents are proud, hardworking people who never imagined they would be in this position. Watching them face the loss of their home, their belongings, and the uncertainty of having nowhere permanent to live — especially while my dad is seriously ill — has been heartbreaking.
