Sandipan's Battle: Your Support Can Save Him

Dear Friends, Family, and Compassionate Strangers,

I am reaching out on behalf of my cousin, Sandipan, a gentle and generous 43-year-old who has suffered a massive, life-threatening brain stroke. Currently, he is under critical care at the Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata (INK) in India, fighting hard for every moment. As his family member based in North Carolina, I offered to open a gofundme campaign to help him with urgent medical needs without which he might not survive.

About Sandipan:

Sandipan has always been an artistic soul - soft-spoken, kind, and passionate about the arts. He has always been too gentle and giving to demand what he was owed for his work. Instead, he offered his kindness freely, quietly helping relatives and neighbors without hesitation.

His Current Condition:

Sandipan’s stroke has left him in critical condition. The MRI reports show large areas of infarction with dangerous swelling and a significant mass effect on his brain. Beyond the neurological damage, his blood creatinine level has soared to 6.5, and he is battling imbalances like dangerously high sodium levels. Doctors are considering dialysis. For days, he has been unable to eat solid food. Every moment is precarious, every hour full of uncertainty. He is barely able to talk or comprehend his surroundings and he is partly paralysed.

This is not just an immediate crisis; it is the start of a very long, painstaking recovery journey. Sandipan's family has already spent their entire family savings and borrowed all they could. Countless family members have put in their contributions, but it has not sustainable indefinitely.

Medical costs at this point are staggering and we anticipate a minimum total of $20,000 or more over time. On average, monthly costs for his ongoing care, rehabilitation, and support could reach about $1,200, stretching over 1-2 years.

His Family’s Situation:

Sandipan’s mother is elderly with severe mobility limitations. As her only son Sandipan has always been the quiet caregiver at home, making sure his mother’s simple needs were met. But now, with him bedridden in the ICU, she is left helpless. Relatives have contributed what they can, but we are not even close to meeting the costs that lie ahead.

How will the funds be used ?

We will share complete details of all costs and original medical bills with donors who wish to review the information. The funds will be used to pay medical care costs from December 16, 2024 onwards. Any excess funds after Sandipan recovers will either be returned to donors (if supported by gofundme) or donated to the American Stroke Association (stroke dot org).
