Sande Keppel Memorial Fund

Donation protected
The Keppel family is asking for $3,505 to cover the cost of five things: 1.) an obituary for Sande in the Seattle Times and on the web, 2.) a memorial in her honor at Newport Presbyterian Church in Bellevue, 3.) the installation of a memorial bench in her honor at Lake Boren Park, also in Bellevue,  4.) cremation, and 5.) GoFundMe administrative costs.

Of the $3,505 total, $700 would go toward Sande’s obituary. This amount would cover the necessary column inches in the Sunday Seattle Times, as well as web publication, and various additional charges associated with newspaper publication. If you’d like to read Sande’s obituary, please refer to the copy below.

Following a hard-fought battle with cancer, Sandra Kay Keppel, 71, died June 15th, 2018, at her home in Bellevue, with immediate family gathered around her. Born in Junction City, Kansas on December 30th, 1946, Sande graduated from Manhattan High School in Kansas.  She met her husband Robert Keppel while attending her sophomore year at Central Valley High School in the Spokane valley.   She later earned her Bachelor's degree from Kansas State University.  A preschool teacher and parent educator at Bellevue Community College, Sande also enjoyed trips to Europe, holiday gatherings with grandchildren, and excursions with a special crew of friends also known as the "Fab 8.” A memorial service for Sande will be held on August 4th, 2018, at Newport Presbyterian Church in Bellevue.

$600 would go toward the memorial for Sande. This amount would cover both an honorarium for the pastor, and a fee to Newport Presbyterian in return for providing space and services for the event. Newport Presbyterian Church was the Keppel family’s regular church throughout the childhood of the Keppel children.

$1,400 would go toward the building and installation of a memorial bench for Sande at Lake Boren Park. If you’d like to learn more about the bench, please read the anecdote below.

$805 would go towards covering cremation cost.

Lake Boren Park held a special place for Sande because of the natural beauty of the water and the landscape that surrounded it. That landscape became a favorite setting for walks she would take with her husband Bob. Yet each time Bob and Sande walked the trail at the park, Bob would grow tired in a particular spot. Sande often lamented that spot because it had no resting place for tired hikers. For this reason she requested that a bench be installed in her name, “Sande Lindgren Keppel,” so that others like Bob could stop and sit, and, if they knew Sande, remember her there.

Any donations going above and beyond what's ask for will be used to help pay down Sande's medical treatment bills.
