Sanctuary for Scotty

Donation protected
As some of your know, I have always been an avid animal lover. Just recently, I began volunteering at the Little Red Barn Micro Sanctuary to "give back" to amazing farm animals that have had difficult lives.

The focus of this particular GoFundMe page is one BIG guy named Scotty.

Although I am helping sponsor part of his monthly nutritional needs, I am trying to raise money towards his purchase price (that saved him from the "meat guy"), towards a very important teeth cleaning (it's a challenge to eat apples in his state) and other basic needs.

Below I have attached his story, told by the wonderful sanctuary owner, Colleen.
Thank you for your consideration everyone!

Have you always loved horses, but just never had the opportunity to own one? Would you consider helping me to care for my Scotty, a 25 year-old Belgium gelding?

Scotty was born to an enslaved broodmare used by the pharmaceutical industry to collect Pregnant Mare Urine. As a draft colt, Scotty’s fate was undecided. Many like him end up in the Alberta feed lots, used for pet food or human consumption. Instead, Scotty embarked on a life of servitude. For almost a quarter century, Scotty pulled heavy ploughs through the fields in spring and fall. He hauled wagons of supplies and pulled tree stumps out of the ground. His halter was so tight for so many years that the groove in his face became permanent and the hair follicles died, leaving his skin exposed to the hot sun in the summer and to the extreme cold of the Canadian winters. The grey of his hairs along his majestically curved head clearly outline where the halter and harness were used. When Scotty’s health began to fail, when his steps were less sure, and when his strength waned, he was taken on a one-way trip to a horse auction. Most animals purchased there end up on a kill wagon to become horse meat. This was Scotty’s fate.

At a bid price of $1,400, The Good Place: Farm Rescue & Sanctuary saved Scotty. As Jen and I said goodbye to the other drafts we were not able to buy, our hearts broke. We drove away with Scotty safe in our horse trailer. I cried all the way home for Prince, another Belgium draft, and the others left behind. Scotty is now safe with me at the Little Red Barn Micro Sanctuary. Although others have offered to adopt Scotty, there has always been a change of heart.

I realize that these are difficult times for many, but I want to give Scotty the life he deserves in his remaining days. He has known much hardship. Now he should be spoiled and fussed over, with regular hoof trims, and exceptional veterinarian and nutritional care. I want him to have a dignified crossing over the rainbow bridge surrounded by love; to never have to experience the violence of the bolt gun.

I appreciate any and all contributions!
