San Ramon Valley High Weight Room Renovation

We are asking our extended SRV Community to help raise money to benefit San Ramon Valley High School Athletic Booster Club so we may renovate the SRV Weight Room.

The SRV weight room is currently in its 13th year of usage. The racks and platforms are outdated and falling apart. Several benches are not functional or broken and have had to be removed for the safety of our students and athletes.

The purpose of the weight room is for athletes to become stronger, both mentally and physically, and build up endurance that allows them to perform to the best of their abilities and help grow a strong team overall.

All athletes at San Ramon Valley High School benefit from a comprehensive strength and conditioning program.

Different sports teams benefit from the weight room in different ways. The most common thread is that programs that incorporate a weightlifting program make students stronger and more prepared physically and mentally. The Weight Room is an integral part of San Ramon Valley’s success on all athletic fields.

Head Football Coach Aaron Becker says “Strength training is by far the most important aspect of what we do with the football players at San Ramon Valley High School. Our strength and conditioning program is second to none and has been the primary contributor to our success on the field as well as the health and safety of our student athletes. Upgrading and modernizing the weight room at San Ramon will go a long way in ensuring this continues well into the future.”

Head Track Coach Traci McMullen believes a good weight facility is key to reaching beyond core potential. “Most sports rely heavily on strength and explosiveness, with track and field near the top of that list of sports. We train hard in the weight room from September to the start of the season. This is where we get stronger, utilize explosive moves with weights, and prepare for the quick movements that will take place during the season. The athletes who hit the weights improve far more than those who just run. Talent only gets you so far; eventually, the athletes who put in the work in the weight room surpass those with natural ability or those who mature early. Look at some of the best programs in the area. One thing they all have in common: a good weight facility”.

Head Men's Basketball Coach Brian Botteen believes off-season training in the Weight Room is key to success. “Men's Basketball has been using the weight room for the past 4-5 years. It has become part of our off-season training program, as well as embedded into our summer camp sessions. The freshman use the first year to learn proper technique, and it builds it way up to having a S & C trainer help customize programs that allow the student athletes to reach their full potential. “

The new renovation plan will involve half racks, rack attachments and upgraded benches, dumbbell racks and storage all with logos and customized branding. In addition, there will be rubber bumpers, Olympic barbells and custom flooring with platforms and newly painted walls. The entire cost of the renovation will be $165,000.
