What Happened:
On Nov. 4th, my 3.5 year old pitbull baby Sam got out of my parents backyard via an open gate and took off with the other dog they own. Unfortunately, Sam found his way to the nearby busy street where he was hit by a truck going about 35 miles an hour. The driver as
well as two other observers kindly pulled over and immediately rushed to Sam's side to help him. That was when I received a call informing me what happened. They said he looked very bad, having severe scrapes and lacerations all over and he was unable to walk. They were able to get him to a nearby vet to tend to some of the wounds, but the vet proclaimed that he needed emergency attention which they weren't able to provide at that clinic, because he had broken bones and potentially internal damage. With the help of my Sister-in-law, I was able to take Sam to an emergency center where he was admitted overnight for lacerations all over his body, a fractured pelvic joint, his right hind leg broken in two spots, and potentially a punctured lung. After Sam's condition stabilized and tests run, I was fortunate to hear that his lungs were intact other than just internal bruising from the impact and suffering from severe shock the previous day. I was able to visit him this morning and he was aware and in much better spirits, even wagging his tail and trying to lick my face. I was so worried because the good Samaritans who stopped to help Sam said that they honestly thought he wasn't going to make it. He's a headstrong and determined fighter though and we're optimistic he's going to make a full recovery.

Tomorrow he will be going into surgery where they have to take care of a few things. 1) The socket joint in his pelvis needs to be cleaned up where they will remove the bone spurs and secure the socket. This is important to do properly to allow a full range of motion and prevent arthritis as Sam ages. 2) Tending to the two broken bones in the right hind leg. They will need to be set and put in a brace for about 8 weeks.
Money:
This money will help pay for the cost of the original vet which temporarily tended to the deep cuts initially, the cost of the emergency vet where Sam stayed the night and received medicine and emergency care, and then the cost of the surgery to tend to the broken bones and aftercare associated with it. The estimate right now before surgery is a total all-together of $10,000.

Sam:
I've had Sam since he was a puppy, and he's helped me whenever I needed him. He cheers me up when I'm sad, makes me laugh and reminds me everyone is special. He loves me unconditionally (too much sometimes, licking my face for 10 minutes at a time!). Now it's my chance to return the favor and make sure he can receive the care he deserves in order to make a full recovery and live a long healthy life!
Please check the update tab for new information on how Sam is doing on his recovery, I'll update it throughout the process so you can see how your care and support are helping him make a full recovery back to his loving, active and goofy self!
Thank you so much for you support and thoughts for Sam's recovery!!!
