Hi my name is Samuel, I am a musician, poet, dancer and teaching artist from South Central LA, Ca.
On July 15 2020, I applied to Youth Initiative Program in Sweden and now I am so grateful to have been selected to participate in YIP13 this coming year.

Youth Initiative Program (YIP) is a 10 month residential educational program for 18-28 year olds based in Sweden and is international in it's range. It happens every year, and since I heard about YIP 5 years ago, I've been waiting for the right moment to go. This year there will be 20 young adults from all around the world coming to live together for 10 months, while receiving daily courses on topics here.
I see YIP as an opportunity to sit with myself and reflect, Collaborate/Learn with others, an opportunity to go through a journey of personal growth/awareness. I want the chance to learn from people of different Social and Economic Backgrounds, and learn from other people around the world and see how they have found their place in it.
I am at a transitional point into my adulthood. There are times when I don't feel ready and know that there is still more I want to learn/experience before I make my next step.
"The International Youth Initiative Program (YIP) is a 10 month residential societal entrepreneurship training for 18-28 years olds based in Sweden. It offers a holistic educational program that expands global understanding and personal awareness. YIP aims to strengthen young people’s capacity to take personal and collective initiative in the face of current global realities."
Why $15,000
$10,000 -- course cost & room/board -- basically 1k/month
$5,000 --
Plane Tickets ($700-900 each way)
Medical coverage ($200 monthly)
Food on the weekends ($20 weekly)
Donations:
$50 : Poetry Zine
$100: Private Writing/Healing workshop (Groups of 5)
I understand that $15k is a lot of money and If i am not able to raise enough money to attend Y.I.P I will use the money that has been raised to host free writing workshops and free private beginning guitar lessons for youth and adults in south central and surrounding communities.
I'll be providing Notebooks, pens and worksheets.
